Thursday night's public forum on the Bush administration's
attack on immigrants and civil liberties will feature
Ramsey Clark, former U.S. Attorney General, who will speak
out against the Bush administration's plans for war
against Iraq.

He will be joined by civil rights attorneys, anti-war
activists, educators and others, who will also address the
increasing attacks on civil rights, civil liberties and
immigrants. The meeting will also include an update on
Saturday's police attack on the Philadelphia rally to free
Mumia.

Beatings, Arrests and High Bail, Just for Saying 'Free
Mumia'
The Face of The Government's Crackdown on Dissent

"The Philadelphia legal system -- the same institution
that put Mumia on death row through a frameup, coverup and
legal lynching -- hasn't wasted any time in putting into
practice the government's new crackdown on dissent," said
Monica Moorehead, a co-director of the International
Action Center.

"Known in the media as the 'war on terrorism,' the most
recent form of this crackdown was Saturday's cop riot that
attacked a 'Free Mumia' rally -- and now is attempting to
scare or weigh down the movement through an array of
frame-up felony charges and ridiculously high bail."

Of the eight people arrested, including the two who were
hospitalized, six face phony charges ranging from felony
assault of a police officer, conspiracy, conspiracy to
riot, and misdemeanors for the same. One protester faces
three separate counts of each of the above and numerous
misdemeanors -- for being the "instigator."

One protester's bail was set at $80,000; another's was
$68,000.

"This violent and repressive move against Mumia's
supporters is the face of the new mood in this country
when it comes to political dissent," said Moorehead. "The
racist attack on civil liberties has been initially
targeted primarily against Arab Americans, Muslim people
and other immigrants. But the ultimate target is the
movement for people's rights as a whole."
