KATHMANDU -- Royal Nepal Army (RNA) personnel have foiled terrorist attempts to cause heavy damages during their attacks launched in the district headquarters of Jumla and Kalikot districts Thursday night, our latest reports confirm. However, further details of any casualties incurred have not been confirmed so far though the Maoists is said to have suffered heavy losses. Our district correspondent in Surkhet, quoting police sources, say that Deputy Superintendent of Police Govinda Poudel has been injured by splinters during the attack in Jumla and is receiving treatment at the nearby army barrack. Government authorities are also said to be taking refuge at the army barrack of a RNA company headed by a Major. Our reports from Nepalgunj add that the Maoists, numbering around 200 and around thousand supporters, first attacked Regional Police Unit Office and District Police Office in Jumla at around 6 p.m. The encounter is said to have lasted for around one hour and then for another half an hour after a while. Military sources told Kantipur Online late Thursday evening that the rebels have now been chased away from the district headquarters since 10 p.m., adding that the district headquarters is now under the control of the army. Likewise, police sources confirmed that Maoists in Kalikot also made similar attempts Thursday night at around 9 p.m., where the Maoists numbering around 200 were chased away after an encounter that lasted for around half an hour. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
