The squids belonging to the thysanoteuthis rhombus family are the biggest of the squids as their legs are shorter than bodies and yellow brown. ��� One squid weighs 13 kg and is 1.34 m in its total length and 70 cm in its body length. ��� This kind of fish is known to live in deep tropical and subtropical waters including the south sea of korea and the mediterranean. Its number is small and it is rare to be found in coastal waters. ��� The squids were caught in the waters off Soho, South Hamgyong Province of Korea. They were conveyed with due ceremony yesterday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Servicemen meet to carry out New Year's tasks ��� Pyongyang, January 4 (KCNA) -- A meeting of servicemen of the ministry of the People's Armed Forces was held at the April 25 House of Culture yesterday to carry out the militant tasks set forth in the New Year's joint editorial under the leadership of supreme commander Kim Jong Il. Present there were Jo Myong Rok, director of the general political department of the Korean People's Army, Kim Yong Chun, chief of the KPA general staff, minister Kim Il Chol and other senior officials of the People's Armed Forces, and KPA generals, officers and soldiers. ��� At the meeting Jo Myong Rok made a report, which was followed by speeches of generals. ��� It was stressed at the meeting that the New Year's joint editorial reviews the brilliant successes in the revolution and construction last year and is an important guideline that clearly indicates the magnificent tasks of this year and ways of their fulfilment and an inspiring banner which calls the whole party and army and all the people to the grand revolutionary march in the New Year. ��� The reporter and speakers called for more highly demonstrating the invincible might of the revolutionary strong army of Mt. Paektu under the uplifted militant slogan of the Workers' Party of Korea "Glorify this year that greets the 90th birthday of President Kim Il Sung as a year of a new surge in the building of a powerful nation" ��� They called for training the whole army as the vanguard in devotedly defending the leader and an army strong in ideology and faith by thoroughly applying the viewpoints that our leader, idea, army and system are most valuable, and for effecting fresh mass innovations in intensifying the combat readiness and combat power of the KPA by strengthening the military and political training in every way. ��� They also called for glorifying this year as a year of the grand march of the army and the people and displaying the combat power of the KPA and the might of the revolutionary spirit of soldiers in the important construction projects to contribute to the prosperity of the country and the improvement of the people's living standard. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Threat comes from Japan ��� Pyongyang, January 4 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed commentary condemns the Japanese reactionaries for vociferating about the "threat of terrorism" from the DPRK. The Japanese police office in a recent report on "the review of public security and its prospect" underscored the "need" to closely watch the moves of the DPRK, asserting that there might be terrorism from outside with the world football championships this year as a momentum. ��� The commentary says, and goes on: ��� They did not bother to let loose such provocative remarks against the DPRK as it has failed to allay the international worries. They claim that the DPRK is beset with "issue of missile development and export" and "it refuses to accept the verification and inspection by the international atomic energy agency" as regards the nuclear issue. ��� There are no such "issues" in the DPRK and it is exposed to Japan's threat. ��� What the Japanese reactionaries seek in ridiculously peddling the "threat of terrorism" from the DPRK is as clear as noon day. ��� They are going to cite the "threat of terrorism" from the DPRK to divert elsewhere the watchful eyes of the world focused on Japan. ��� Another aim is to fan up anti-DPRK hostile feelings in Japan. ��� Having designated the DPRK as the first target of their overseas aggression, the Japanese reactionaries are working hard to attain it. ��� They are well advised to behave with decorum, pondering over the serious consequences of their anachronistic hostile policy towards the DPRK. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fish breeding brisk ��� Pyongyang, January 4 (KCNA) -- Big efforts are channeled into the fish breeding in the DPRK. New fish farms covering nearly 1,000 hectares were built last year, says Song Thae In, chief engineer of the fish farm management bureau under the ministry of fisheries. ��� In recent 5 years, the fish breeding area has trebled. ��� South Hamgyong Province has built the modern youth fish farm covering scores of hectares and put its management on a scientific and technological basis. As a result, a solid foundation has been laid to boost the production of freshwater fish including rainbow-trout, crucian carp and carp. ��� North Hwanghae Province has also placed the method of breeding fish by natural food and food processing on a scientific and technological basis. In this way it has opened up a new vista of developing the fish breeding although the country's conditions still remain difficult. ��� The work of breeding sea fish together with freshwater fish is now making brisk headway on various fish farms in North Phyongan Province and other areas of the west coastal tideland. ��� Modern stock breeding farms and spawning ponds have also been built in each province, city and county. ��� Modern catfish farms have also appeared in different parts of the country. ��� Fish production is on a steady increase at the modern catfish farms built in various areas including Songhwa, Samchon, Pukchang and Tongsin counties. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rodong Sinmun on basic spirit of north-south joint declaration ��� Pyongyang, January 4 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article stresses that the basic spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration should be respected. It is the main point and basic spirit of the joint declaration to reject any outside interference and independently reunify the country by concerted efforts of Koreans, masters and driving force of Korea's reunification, the article says, and goes on: ��� The basic spirit of the joint declaration most correctly reflects the demands and interest of the nation, the reality of the country and the essence and characters of the issue of national reunification and indicates the right way of achieving the reunification of the country as early as possible. ��� The Korean people's struggle for reunification of the country is, in essence, the struggle to oppose the foreign forces' domination and interference and realize national sovereignty. ��� If the U.S. had not occupied South Korea, our country would not have been divided into two. if the u.s. had not obstructed Korea's reunification, our nation would have realized the reunification of the country long ago. ��� Outside forces are the very one who divided our nation and has disturbed national reunification. ��� Dependence on foreign forces makes it impossible to realize the reunification of the country. ��� The history of the inter-Korean dialogues proves that whatever good agreements on reunification the nation may reach by itself, dependence on outsiders reduces them to a scrap of paper. ��� The idea of independent reunification, the basic spirit of the historic June 15 joint declaration, is a banner of national reunification which the whole nation should hold high. ��� "Reunify the country by united efforts of our nation", this is a slogan of independent reunification that all the fellow countrymen should hold higher this year. ��� All the compatriots at home and abroad should closely rally behind the banner of national reunification irrespective of differences in ideology and social system, class and strata and subordinate everything to achieving national reunification. ��� All of them should make a tangible contribution to the reunification of the country, those with strength dedicating strength, those with knowledge devoting knowledge and those with money donating money. ��� The article calls
