I don't quite get why you are trying to turn one instance of Kopete into a
multi-user setup. Why don't you simply set up multiple KDE users, each with
their own set of preferences and contacts for Kopete? If you want all users to
share the same desktop and only for the Kopete settings to be different, you
could log on as one "main" user and then run Kopete using kdesu. Each person
would then have KDE running under their user account and could customize it as
they wish without affecting the others.
