You should check for mimetype, because remote files use generated names and they doesn't have extensions. If remote files are not supported, then you should add it. You can look at my code in kopete/chatwindow/kopetechatwindowstylemanager.cpp Also this JEP is marqued as deferred and its implementation is not recommanded.
