In Kopete 0.12.1 you can set UTF-8 encoding.
I have couple questions?
If you rename contact in Kopete and put there umlauts are they dispalyed
correctly?
If you set correct encoding for contact and then from the contact's menu select
User Info does it show umlauts correctly?
For german contacts it should be something from UTF-8, ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-2,
Windows-1250, it depends on a client on the other side.
