Hi all !
I have thought of this short after switching from windows and official msn : I
had installed Ubuntu (with gnome) and had to use GAIM, which had interesting
tiny features :
While leaving the mouse on a contact in the contact list, it
1- tells me if this contact has me in his contact list, and my blocked or not
status
2- displays when this offline contact was seen online for the last time (I
think it logs the last disconnection time)
3- shows for how long this online contact is online (my kopete 0.12.7 tells me
SINCE WHEN, why not tell also for HOW LONG (in days, hours, min, sec...)
As for this informations organisation, in the poping window (that, IMHO, should
only disappear when onmouseout and not with a timer --buggy), I have to tell:
1- the nickname-screenname whateveryoucallit, appears twice : first time on the
first line (in bold), then again on the the third line (after a blank second
line), also in bold, but with the contact info --msn passport, icq num-- not in
bold. Then, after the status info, we again have the email adress (preceeded
with a bolded "Email address : "), then the "online since" (ok), then the "away
message".
2- what I would like to see :
a. First line : bold contact name with not bold contact info (msn passport,
yahoo login, icq no). We generally now that everything that looks like login
example com is an email address, and a number for an icq contact should be...
the icq number!
b. Second line : blank is ok.
c. Third line : the away message, but don't call it "Away Message". I don't
really know what to propose (just message? status info, a la facebook? quote?
personal message? anyway...)
d. Then, the other useful info (online for/since OR last seen on/at), and
"this user has (not) you in his(her) contact list.
I think that's it.
In a general way, I have to say that kopete (like most linux apps) has a quite
messy GUI. After a few months using it, I still have to wait most of the times
for the little helper that pops over the icons... I know, I know, GUI design is
a hard full-time job, I just wanted to say it, maybe this should be thought at
some time.
Have a nice day/night and HOORAY for the dev team !
