It's a matter of "we haven't tried it." It will work fine on Fedora - installation on a Linux host requires building a couple kernel modules, and VMware has only provided, or tested the compilation of, those modules on the list of supported OSes. But as long as you have a kernel source install and the usual chain of development stuff, you're fine.
