Your hands come off the home-row if you use the arrow keys. That is,
unless your hands are really wierdly shaped, I suppose. Vi isn't for
mutants, that's why we have emacs!

Same thing for using the mouse. Your hand has to come off the home
row to use a mouse, which means that a mouse-driven editor *cripples*
a touch-typist.

(Plus, for me, using a mouse causes all sorts of strain in my arm,
shoulder, and back. RSI, anyone?)

You only have to hit it once to terminate insert mode and end up in
command mode.

Emacs has a command-mode as well. You just type with one finger on the
control key. . .

This is my major problem with emacs, I suspect. The amount I need to
memorize is simply boggling. Plus having to use the control-key for
damn near everything.

For GUIs, you can use gvim, which even has a fancy set of menus.

For text, it depends -- if you're writing code, pico is an abomination. If
you are trying to write an email, and never ever write any sort of code,
then pico is probably okay.

Heh. You mutants with an oversized sinister pinkie finger can do what
you want -- just stop expecting us normal humans to agree that your
deviant ways are somehow superior.

Each to his own. But if you're writing code, avoid pico. If you never
intend to touch code, will resist touching code, and are willing to go
on the dole before you touch code, then pico is fine.
