No, it's not that I don't recognize it. It's that it's invalid. Sauce
for the goose is sauce for the gander.  "You have to consider the big
picture" doesn't validate arguments when you use 'em and invalidate 'em
when I use 'em.

And it's not that a specific alternative has an inhernet value; it's
that _lack_ of alternatives indicates that there's no way to establish
a fair value... it's a vulnerability, an oppressive stance, a stagnation.

You don't get hybridization in purebreds.

Oh, back off on your ad hominem baloney. I wasn't the one making la-la
noises.  Those who mock have no legs to stand on in an argument, as
they've given up the pretense of debate.

And it's not that I don't understand, it's that I find it fundamentally
wrong. It's the expression of the very attitude that I'm objecting to... 
"Pick the _right_ set of values, and it's not a problem anymore."

I own more than one hammer.  Picking the right tool for the job means
having more than one tool in the toolbox -- and often, having more than
one toolbox.
