As Mr Runyan pointed out, one reason is that I don't have a lot of faith in the character of their leader. Anyone remember all of the spam MP3.com used to send out? He saw absolutely nothing wrong with it and if Lindows had a million people a day entering their email addresses on their site I bet we would see a repeat. I risked my neck on a number of occasions speaking out against it. I have seen him treat people very poorly as well. He's not a hacker and probably doesn't give a whit about the "community". He's here as a johnny-come-lately to make money and Linspire reflects this. And he probably thinks I am a naieve wuss who knows nothing about business to consider such things. And that's just fine. He's entitled to make money and think his own thoughts. Also, Linspire seems like a lot of adware or to use the marketing term "branding". And paying for click-n-run...that's basically an apt repository. If we are going to talk about making money off of Linux I prefer the way RedHat does business: Some old school Unix guys and a bit of the hacker ethic who believe in the community who are giving the software away for free and making money on the support. IMHO Lindows is unlikely to be able to make much money off of support since their target market is home users who are notoriously cheap and not very good at computers so they will require more support than usual. But as I said before, I am impressed with Nvu. - -- Tracy R Reed http://[EMAIL PROTECTED] -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFCTKqs9PIYKZYVAq0RAq0vAJ9Lb6IW/xuTDp9SazKGAJZbRkzFqgCfTGQJ zioy2UGdrm1uzSUoccsxc2Y= =6y7/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
