A very good point. Yes, I am interested in what Tracy has to say about Linspire. I would also welcome comments by anyone else who has their own views about the OS. That means positive as well as negative comments. Linspire 5.0 has just been released and they are in a receptive mode to hear what people have to say.

I have Linspire 5.0 on one of my systems, replacing the Linspire 4.5 I had been using. I used their new upgrade capability for the installation. It seemed to work, at first. But many of the programs in my user areas have vanished. The icons are still there, but they just generate error messages when I try to access the programs. Worse, the major updating function, CNR, is one of the programs in the user area that I can no longer use.

I can't update anything in my user area because the update program has gone south.

I can still update programs under root, but I created the users so I wouldn't have to run under root.

I could probably fix it by doing a complete re-installation and restoring my data and configurations from backup, but it is annoying that the problem exists to begin with.

Linspire 5.0 is still a work in progress and immature.
