Well.. I guess we'd have to know Mr. Gates a lot better to know
which of the greed or insecurity was his major motivator.  I'd
rather remain ignorant in this area.  It's likely that his motives
changed from time to time depending on a variety of factors.  The
fact that insecurity and greed were major contributors is enough to
satisfy my curiosity.

And to tie it in with Andrew's point in a different message, not
wanting to be manipulated by the plans of a greedy/insecure company
was the main reason for my switching to Linux.  I hated daily
reboots, and buggy excel spreadsheets and fear of viruses.  I hated
even more the feeling that my "computing experience" was being
controlled in some rather insidious ways.  I ran straight to Slackware in
1996 or so to get my computing liberty.
