I priced out Opteron machines. I could save maybe $200 per machine by building it myself rather than buying an off-the-shelf package from Sun or HP. That $200 gets me very nice support from Sun. Sun support has rocked every time I needed them. Call up, describe problem, get problem logged, have support engineer show up *in person with spare part in hand* within 24 hours.

Really. Take a look at the Sun machines. I have been very happy with my Sun Java Workstation W1100z running Solaris 10 on an Opteron.
