Yep, WalMart customers know the cost of everything and the value of
nothing.
Yep, and there's nothing that can be done about it. They
are, after all, acting in their own direct self-interest.
Walmart reminds me of a species of living organism that
is maximizing its survival odds. It's a smart organism
that is living in a global sandbox and can only continue
to be successful if it doesn't foul its own corner of the
sandbox too much. Trouble is, it doesn't realize this and
is currently successful because it's usurping entropy.
In the end, Walmart is only doing what comes naturally.
What can be done about it? US national laws to limit
free trade with other countries? Would this be done
with tariffs? Would it work to keep jobs at home?
At what cost to productivity and the cost of living?
If left alone, the problem will correct itself when
everyone in the world is experiencing the same standard
of living; if there are no pressure gradients, things
(jobs) won't flow to equalize. I guess this means that
the US goes down, the third (non Muslim) world goes up.
I dare say that this will happen regardless of what
the US does. At least this will solve the illegal
alien problem...
But how does this relate to Linux?
Regards,
Lew
