Now that Sarge is released, I think it time to upgrade my DEC Alpha,
which has been running along on Woody for quite a while.

The release notes for Sarge tell me how to make sure that I am still
doing Woody updates if needed, before upgrading the whole system to
Sarge. It is not clear to me whether I should update all software to
the latest versions available for Woody before doing the major version
upgrade.

Is upgrading first to the most recent version of the previous release
necessary, or just nice to do, or absolutely superfluous?
