Not true with the Logitech TrackMan Marble FX (the original model

almost as good as a mouse.

Thanks. Oh I know another problem with trackball. You keep your
thumbs fixated and move ball with /just/ 2 or 3 fingers. Just
these few middle fingers
are weak and inaccurate compared to moving the traditional mouse
with your entire hand. You have a nice solid stronger controlled
grip with traditional mouse IMHO.

Chris

Again, not true with the Marble FX. The way the ball is gripped is similar to the way you hold a pencil - between thumb and first and third fingers. How much more control do you need?

More you say? Then move up (waaaaaaaaaaay up) to an analog joystick like my wife uses.

o USB connection.

o 2-button mouse/trackball functionality (left button, right button).

o Variable speed movement dependent on off-center position.
  (centered = 0 pixels/sec,
greater x- or y-offset == increased cursor speed)

o Speed button cycles through one of five discrete cursor speed ranges.

o 1 button toggles cursor drag on/off.

o Double-click button.

o Axis control (x and y, x-only, or y-only).

You could fly the space shuttle with this thing (and for about the same price).
