I use a Netgear WG511 card which uses the Prism GT chipset. It is
autodetected on the Debian-based systems I run (Mepis, Kanotix), as well

The only configuring I have to do is the encryption.

[Hand raised] Fedora Core 4 on a laptop here. It detects the Intel
PRO/Wireless (IPW2200) card, but it seems it's an incomplete install
from Redhat. After I installed the drivers from here
(http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/) it all worked fine. I don't believe
FC4 installs the binary firmware image for the card, only the driver module.
BTW, NetworkMangager (NetworkManager, NetworkManagerDispatcher - both
services, and NetworkManagerInfo - the user interface) seem to be coming
along nicely as tools for detecting and connecting to WLAN's. I'm still
working on figuring out using WPA with them though.
