You should go into the BIOS and turn off the sound if you plug in a sound
card.

So you are saying that Fedora Core 4 can not detect and set up the built-in
sound? You tried both the ALSA and the OSS drivers? What does Knoppix do
with it? If Knoppix can start and detect the sound then you can take the
settings that Knoppix uses and place them in the Fedora system.

Any of the SoundBlaster series of cards will work. I have a PCI sound card
that I found lying around and it works, I don't even know the brand but it
gets detected as an es1371 chipset compatible.
