What are some good "all-in-one" fax, scanner, printers? My friend wants
one on her system (where I recently installed RH fc3). I do not know if
she wants color or not.
The laser models obviously print only black & white, but do they scan in
color?
Anyone know if scanners are working in Linux yet? As I recall, USB
versions have been generally working well as opposed to parallel port
models. (I may want to add a color scanner to my system.) (I'm still on
rh9, but plan to install fc3 very soon.) (fc4 failed to work on my system
for some reason.)
Disclaimer: Until August, I worked for HP making, of all things, All-in-One
inkjet fax scanner printers. My last assignment was doing scanner
development.
I have heard good things about HP ones working with Linux. We definitely
had tools to do scanning and the like (we developed on Linux and HPUX only).
I don't think you get all the software (like OCRs and the like) with
Linux, but HP software sucks anyway. All of ours are USB models, nobody
makes parallel port printers anymore.
Laser models should scan in color (I think), the scanner is a separate unit.
THey obviously won't do copies in color. WHich may be a bigger deal than
you think- for every time I scanned, I did 3 copies, at least.
If you want to talk featuresets and whats hype vs whats really useful, I'd
be happy to discuss this either on the list or offline not to bore people.
