I am familiar with the parallel-port JetDirect print servers. I just
spent half an hour net-browsing to learn about USB JetDirect and other
(non-HP) print servers. Looks like the genuine USB JetDirect lists
for $300 (en3700). The less expensive models have been discontinued
by HP.
Going to other sources of information (eBay and Amazon) I find that
the en3700 can be bought for about $100. The previous HP models (175x
and 310x) run about $80 on eBay.
Customer reviews from Amazon are fairly consistent in panning other
makes of Ethernet USB print servers. Netgear, D-link, Hawking,
Linksys all don't work very well, and in particular seem not to work
with the scanning function of All-in-one devices. But the prices are
quite a bit less. :-) There are no Amazon customer reviews of HP
JetDirect USB print servers.
