There are cases where various Linux distributions get it wrong.  In
particular, I have watched Knoppix pick Hsync and Vsync and resolution
values that are not part of any VESA standard, and do not work well
with some LCD monitors.  "Not work well" ranges from "blank screen
with the little 'out of range' notification"  to "looks OK but bottom
10% of display is cut off".
