Both Inmarsat and Iridium have the bandwidth.
Really? What is the carrier frquency for those? I thought Iridium and
Inmarsat were L-Band around 1.6 GHz? That's a pretty major bandwidth
limit for the entire system.
Let's assume that means that we get 2 Gigabits per second. How do you
get around the fact that the entire country shares that?
Cellular can at least reuse the frequencies every other tower. Even so,
full bandwidth EVDO effectively takes out the entire sector.
We are looking at lower cost modems. It won't be long before some
company (or group) will provide lower cost, wireless access on a global
and portable scale.
Maybe the hardware will become cheap. But I don't see how the spectrum
will ever become cheap (read $50 a month for 512Kbps down/128Kbps up).
