Systems I'm refering to have 1m or 3m dishes, positioning equipment, etc, and essentially give you a full E1 at sea, anywhere in the world from geosyncronous birds. If you've used an iridium phone before, they work, but quality isn't the best. They're better than nothing when your sitting in, oh Banda Aceh after a tsunami wipes out everything.
As for voip, a _WIDEBAND_ sat link has about 1000ms of lag, this greatly degrades a voip conversation. If you've talked overseas on normal phone lines you can tell there's lag, throw in an extra layer, and it'll kill you. Not to mention, all this stuff is $$$$. Mark Tracy R Reed wrote: > Paul G.
