I would like to buy some songs (60s through 80s) individually without
looking for the albums in used CD stores. I want to do it legally.
Two questions:
1. My CD SW rips to .wav's. Can I buy songs in a format (MP3?) that can
be burned to a CD and does it have to be a .wav?
Most CD Burners are capable of burning MP3's to CD-R's. It is important
to know that MP3 is more like a data file than an audio file when it
comes to burning it to a CD. The MP3 file is "dropped", "copied" , etc.
to the CD compilation and when you have filled up the space on the CD
then it is "finalized".
If you have .wav files that you wish to convert to MP3 files then you
really need to get "lame". Check it out at:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/
You will find that you can put many hours of MP3 songs on a single CD
which makes going MP3 better than .wav
Most modern DVD and CD players (manufactured within the last 5 years or
so) will support playing MP3 files. Check the capabilities of any that
you are considering buying. I have seen CD players that are inexpensive
and quite good at playing regular CD's as well as MP3 CD's e.g.. Virgin
brand, etc.
2. Where do you guys/gals go on line to buy music?
I have a membership with BMG Music http://www.bmgmusic.com/
but I also checked out http://www.allofmp3.com
and they look interesting.
Good luck
