And that is my reason.  I'm packaging an application for my distro. 
(Or... trying to.)  I have to assume that the user has nothing
installed but the bare minimum, which on Gentoo is pretty bare.  I
*know* that sed is in that minimum, but I'm not sure that perl is. 
I'm looking into it, but I'm pretty sure a Gentoo user doesn't have to
install perl if she/he doesn't want to, and I'd hate to force them to,
just for this one liner.
