Not really. You get what the aggregate of people deserve, no matter how you voted (or wished you could vote).
So don't buy that kind of crap. I don't buy Windmodems, or othe proprietary crap that allows venodors to get a stranglehold on my computer. Why would you?
Maybe because it is the only thing available? I remember about 5 years ago going into Best Buy and trying to find a hardware modem. Nearly impossible. Also, take a look at laptops or other integrated motherboards. Once you have chosen a machine, you are pretty much stuck with what they give you. I still have not seen a recent laptop with all of the hardware 100% supported by open source drivers. Lots of people are stuck using things like NDISWrapper, proprietary 3d drivers, and winmodem drivers.
