I would generally agree that the lack of a builtin simple mimetype
editor (e.g. as was included in prior versions of Netscape) is a
deficiency in Firefox.  There is is the XML mimeTypes.rdf file in the
Firefox default profile directory, but it is *not* simple to manually
edit this file IMHO (at least I find it very difficult to parse, though
occasionally I have made a correction there).

I've also seen malformed entries in mimeTypes.rdf and/or browser
extensions interfere with the settings of other entries in the
mimeTypes.rdf file, which means that what you see there is not
necessarily what you get.
