I need to purchase a flat bed color scanner for inputting my wife's

I need something that works with Linux (Fedora 4 and later) and has fair
app SW. It can't turn into a major project getting it working. It has to
be running quickly after I bring it home.
Cost is always a consideration, but the requirements are above.
Can anyone recommend a machine and SW?
TIA,
I use the Epson Perfection 1250 USB and it is very good...
Here are the supported USB scanners that I looked over before buying mine.

You are going to be using the SANE stuff so here is their link:
http://www.sane-project.org/
Here is what I have installed in FC4:
$ rpm -qa|grep sane
xsane-gimp-0.95-3
sane-frontends-1.0.13-2
sane-backends-devel-1.0.15-9
libsane-hpoj-0.91-13
xsane-0.95-3
sane-backends-1.0.15-9
Between the USB compliance and the SANE project it is hard to go wrong
with the recommendations.
