Not really. People now seem to be very good at creating compatibility
shims.

made for teaching so I hope easy to grok.
Maybe. But a studying a modular, message passing kernel that runs like
a dog is not a win.
These 'real world' OSes may be also but I'm not sure.

L4 also has embedded incarnations that will be even smaller and easier
to understand than a full Unix.
