I have it installed and working (but not "in-use" -- haven't actually
gotten a round tuit yet ).

There is a gd.so library in my extensions dir, and it comes from
  php-gd-5.0.4-10.5

so I would guess that you have a missing php-gd.

I notice that it only has 2 components (on my X86_64)
  /usr/lib64/php/modules/gd.so
  /etc/php.d/gd.ini
