I have a couple of questions; first a quick back ground.
Ferdora 5
2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp
3.4 gig CPU
2.5 gig MEM
1.0 gig SWAP

Usage
    mysql
    http

I've never had a mysql server before so I wonder if you guys can point me in
the path to best practises. The reason I say that is that after a wile when
the server starts using about 750 meg of RAM it starts locking up. Also it
never uses any swap. Here are some numbers

Tasks: 80 total, 1 running, 79 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 0.3% us, 0.2% sy, 0.0% ni, 99.5% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% s
Mem: 2581280k total, 675384k used, 1905896k free, 120224k buffers
Swap: 1048568k total, 0k used, 1048568k free, 228696k cached
