Yes, I use the white dome 36 LED bulb as a reading lamp.

And I use the light bulbs from here at the head and foot fop the stairs:

I use LED based night lights in the bathroom and in the hallways when I walk through the house at night. I bought those at the supermarket. They burn out after about a year but it beats turning on all the lights just to go get a drink of water in the middle of the night.

I am looking long and hard at some LED based-solar powered lights for the walkway up to my front door. I will need the sort that have a mountable solar panel that can be sited on the roof, as my walkway is in the shade most of the day. I already have a solar powered house number box on my front fence. It works great but I saw a cheaper more efficient one for sale at Costco yesterday.

I have carried a LED flashlight as part of my key ring for many years. The one I favor these days looks like a rectangular key fob with a super bright white light. I bought the first one at Fry's Electronics for about $8 a few months ago but I see they are on sale at Ralph's Grocery for about $6 right now in the same section as their light bulbs. And, of course, all my battery-operated flashlights are LED.

I also carry battery-operated camping lanterns in my trunk that use fluorescent lamps. I tried some of the LED lanterns a few years ago but they were too weak. God, I hate eating in a restaurant in the dark. It embarrasses the hell out of my wife but I see the other guys taking notes when they see that we are the only ones who can see what we are ordering, and eating!

Good point. But, take it one step further and compare them to LED based bulbs. Not the LED's in a modem but direct plug-in replacements for incandescent bulbs:

I have been watching this technology also. Are you actually using any of these? I love the idea of bulbs which do not have to be replaced. 50,000 hour life means if you run it 8 hours a day it will last you 17 years. And if you make it motion activated or have a light sensor on it you can save even more. I have motion activated lights outside and I really like them. Great for convenience and security. Might put something similar indoors to save electricity when nobody is in the room.
