I've been on a few mailing lists (mostly non-technological) with people that did that, sometimes replying to really old messages, which further adds to the confusion. At least they usually changed the subject line.

Lots of these people have no idea what threaded views or message headers are, so it is difficult for them to understand how what they are doing is causing a problem.
