Well, I did some more research by googling and came up with some good
info so I went down to Best Buy to see what they had. I normally buy
stuff like this off the net but since it seemed there there was a fairly
high chance of having to return something I decided to buy locally. I
ended up with a Samsung YP-U2J. It meets all of the qualifications. It's
a bit small at 512M but it is physically small (size of a butane
cigarette lighter or smaller) and only cost me $69. It also charges
directly off of the USB port which is nice. My Zen Nomad had a separate
charger cable with wall wart and a data cable. This thing has no cables
to misplace except the headphones. Things to look for in a Linux
compatible MP3 player would be a mention of "USB Mass Storage" on the
feature list or as in the case of the YP-U2J it said "USB Drive & Music
Player" on the box. That was a clue that it might "just work" and it does.
