No, they are visible.  I know I've seen the HP_RECOVERY partitions on
computers around here.  And they're either Fat32 or NTFS, I don't remember
for sure.
But to my knowledge they shouldn't have anything to do with not seeing
Documents and Settings on C:...

Dumb questions time:
Is the version of Knoppix you are using new enough to be able to read
NTFS partitions?
What does fdisk have to say about the partitions?
