There were a couple boards that required two IRQs. SoundBlasters were not one of them -- they were able to do it with one. I had a board for the longest time that ate up two. It came with the machine I bought, and since I didn't have the money to replace it, that's what I stuck with for the longest time (and fought it to the death).
Soundblasters did, however, eat up two DMA channels, both an 8 bit and a 16 bit. mmm, dma. pathetic attempt at what should have been MMIO at the start. *sigh*
