Actually, the one from nVidia is 'nvidia' -- 'nv' is the open-source driver.
He's right though, try fiddling with the software and hardware cursors. Also, try the nvidia control panel thingy that comes with the nvidia binary drivers. It may give you some tweaks that you can use to alleviate the problem ... the command, i believe, is 'nvidia-settings'.
