In summary to your summary, Webster is wrong. Compact Disk's makes no sense when referring to the plural form. CD is an acronym for Compact Disk, so WTF would anyone put an apostrophe before the 's'? I think the only reason we see it so often today (and the reason Webster says to use it) is because of the confusion about it. The masses started using it, so it stuck.

I wholeheartedly agree. Oh, and btw: CD is an abbreviation for 'compact disc' (whith a 'c'). A disc is a flat, circular object. A disk is an electronic unit containing rotating magnetic storage discs.

(sorry -- that's one of my pet peeves).
