I've discovered the Linksys KVM I'm using (company supplied) is
causing shadows on my screen in both Winsucks and Linux. It does this
on both computers and each have a different brand video card (well,
technically the laptop does not have a card :) ). It's most annoying
in my IDEs when I have shadowed text all over the place.
Check your monitor cables.
While the KVM *can* suck that badly, normally they don't. The internal
signal path generally isn't long enough to cause major problems
(Obviously 2048x1536x32 x 85Hz would be an issue, but you normally
shouldn't be running a KVM, then).
You need a decent shielded monitor cable with a ferrite core (which
should damp out reflections from crappy impedance matching) on at least
one end. Normally, that will set you back at least $30. You might be
able to find one at Fry's.
Personally, I don't use KVM's anymore. Synergy or VNC do a nice job of
giving me control of two computer from one keyboard/mouse.
How well does Synergy work for you?
Is configuration difficult?
Any annoyances -- major/minor?
