I used to do that.. the problem with that setup is that anytime you
want to work on "linux box" you lose your whole internet connection.
I found that to be a HUGE hassle.
I now use a linksys router, but with a sveasoft firmware install.
More linux based power then the OOTB install, and I can take my server
down without losing the net.

You can set up a simple firewall on the linux box to protect the rest
of your machines, and also do NAT. iptables is great.
Sveasoft, openwrt, etc on linksys wrt54g routers gives you NAT,
iptables, and the stuff it can do OOTB too (port forwarding, etc). I
even have a rule on mine that I got off the net to block and log when
someone does a dictionary ssh attack (more then 3 hits in 1 minute
from same IP).
