I have installed Pebble on this configuration in the last few months. I have also installed FreeBSD based M0n0wall on the same hardware, with only an 8Mb Compact flash. Has nothing to do with age. I haven't seen a 386 in years, I see 486 special embedded platforms every day. I wouldn't want to try to find a distribution that would install, much less run on a 8MB RAM system. I don't know what the minimum requirements for Damn Small Linux are, but that's another option. http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ > I would recommend Roxus installs IPCop, despite it coming with a fancy > web interface which may be slow, but I can't find a list of > requirements other than supported network hardware: > > http://ipcop.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&pagename=IPCopHCLv01 There are several versions of m0n0wall, including a CDROM system that doesn't require any hard drive. You can download from http://m0n0.ch/wall/downloads.php But this conversation is about Linux, not m0n0wall, OpenBSD, etc. -- Neil Schneider pacneil_at_linuxgeek_dot_net http://www.paccomp.com Key fingerprint = 67F0 E493 FCC0 0A8C 769B 8209 32D7 1DB1 8460 C47D "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
