Download the Alternate Install CD instead (ubuntu-6.06.1-alternate- i386.iso). It runs you through the regular text-based installer instead of the fancy Live-CD install process. Also useful for doing LVM or other fancy disk setups. Once you've got your system laid down you should be able to fix up your graphics.
