Why am I seeing replies before the original?
A few minutes ago, I downloaded my email. Among them, I read one where
Nicholas Wheeler was replying to John Oliver.
But mere moments ago, I downloaded my email again. This time I got only
one email, namely the one from John Oliver.
I think this asequency is probably happening a lot more than I'm aware
of because usually I download a week's worth at a time. But even with
that, I notice this asequency something like every other time.
(I realize that "asequency" is probably not a word. But if
"asynchronous" can mean "not synchronous", then what the hey!)
You have been spoiled by the rapid data transport of the modern
internet. There is no guarantee that messages will arrive in the
order that they were sent. It just often happens that way and people
begin to believe this is the way it always is.
