I'm on FC4. And I used yum just 2 days ago. But today it's broken.
You're running into two problems. First, the FC6 release has flooded RedHat's mirrors. Second, FC4 is now maintained by the Fedora Legacy project.
I recommend you visit http://fedoralegacy.org/ and follow the instructions for installing their supplemental RPM with updated yum configs. That will get you pointed over to their servers, you'll continue to get current updates, and you'll bypass the FC6 rush.
