Hi everyone, as recommended by Carl Lowenstein, I'm joining the Kernel Panic mailing lists. I'm a newbie in the sense that I have installed Linux (ubuntu 6.10 for starters) on a brand new Dell Latitude D820 about a week ago. Works pretty good so far.
Things that already work: Dual boot, CPU recognition, touchpad speed tweaking, wired and wireless internet access, email, data CDs and DvDs, audio CDs, printer, scanner, USB sticks, emacs, TeX, Open Office, hard disk management using LVM. Things that don't work so far: Firefox Flash player plugin, playing MP3, streaming audio, streaming video, movies. Burning CDs with non-Windows file names. To do: Install Mathematica and gEDA. Learn how to compile programs from source. Play with different Linux distributions. Carl and George Vamos (a friend from Studio City) got me started, and Jim Sack brought me up to speed with LVM. See y'all around ... Christoph -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
