These might be solved by telling Ubuntu to use a universal repository.
("universal"?)  By default, Ubuntu won't install support for
roprietary codecs.  You have to instruct it to shackle you thusly.
I'm not a regular Ubuntu user, and I can't explain further than that,
but there's a HOWTO out there for multimedia on Ubuntu.
