Musicians do. As do screenwriters. Do most book authors not?

Some make the copyright assignment with a reversion clause, so that if the book (or article) isn't published within a reasonable time the rights revert to the author. And more authors are trying to sell limited rights assignments like "First North American printing rights" that allows them to sell the same material again later or elsewhere or in a different format such as a screenplay based on a novel.
