In Lenexa we have multiple competitors, so we can get a better rate. My wife
called when we moved here and said "We are moving to an area with Everest,
and I am thinking of switching my service" The sales rep responded "We have
a deal for people like you." We get digital cable, internet, and either
Shotime or HBO for just under $60. The phone service is $30. It comes out
at about 1/2 what I used to pay. Hope that helps.

This pisses me off.

I have Time Warner, earthlink cable modem, digital cable, HBO, and three
convertors. All that for $93 a month, and that's after the HOA pays for
basic cable!

However, in an area where there's competition, all of a sudden they can
offer more services for half the cost and somehow manage to not go
bankrupt.

Back on topic, though, I have thought about looking into getting phone
from TW too. I remember Cox used to have a package deal for all three
services. I pay AT&T about $35 a month... if I could save some $$$ I'd
go for it.

As for losing power, well, I have my cell phone :-)

I lived in Lenexa and switched from TW and SBC to Everest -- it cost me basically half for far better service. Fiber to the back yard beats the hell out of cable and lousy phone connections. Everest had a plan for emergency service and I never lost it.

Here, in San Antonio, I am forced back to the TW slunge but I refused to use AT&T phone 2-wire service. I have AT&T CallVantage VOIP service over TW cable. It has been great and cost me $29.99 (36.12 with tax) per month for so many features you have to go to the web site to see. Voice quality is rated as "toll quality" (i.e., same as 2-wire service).

To get around any power problems with my house, one phone, the telephone adapter, the cable modem, and my wireless Linksys router are on a UPS.
