Anyone have any experience or comments about dslextreme.com?
I'm considering switching from Cox cable to them. Considerations are:
About the same $$ (with 1-yr contract)
8 static IPs vx. Cox's one dynamic that's changed 3 times in 3 months.
No blocked ports
OK to run servers
Probably 1/2 to 1/4 the DL speed of Cox. No biggie to me.
No setup charge and modem included if I stay with them for a year.
And hopefully support people whose answer to the first question is
something other than "You need to connect a windows computer directly to
the cable modem before we can proceed."
I have been using dslextreme for a little over a year now and it has
worked really well. I had some minor problems when first getting hooked
up but it turned out it was really caused by SBC on the local loop, but
dslextreme took care of it. I have the regular consumer package for
about $22/month with dynamic IPs (5 available) but I don't think my IP
has changed for the whole year. I get 1.5Mbps download and 368Kbps
upload speed.
The support guy I talked with when first setting up actually knew about
Linux and we had a conversation about different distributions while
waiting for results from troubleshooting SBC. I think the support guys
actually work from home and do everything remotely. They do speak
American standard English.
